Battling Demons: Finding an Angel

Project Brief

Sally’s niece met my wife, Jo, at a university workshop. They got talking. My wife mentioned that her husband was a writer – memoir and biography mostly. Sarah said that her Auntie Sally had the most remarkable life story she knew of, and people like Sarah were encouraging her to either write it herself or have a professional writer do it based on interviews. Originally it was going to be the latter, but turned out to be the former. Sally just did not know where to start. I became her mentor/writing coach. With guidance, encouragement, editing and reflection, the writer in Sally has emerged powerfully as will the final story – one of incredible resilience and love against as many odds as you would care to stack against someone.

From the Client

Sally Beavis

“At the start I was intending for Simon Dalton to write ‘My Story’.

However, a series of events changed my mind, and I decided to write it myself.

Simon was respectful of this decision and encouraged me all along the way. It took several months and some very bad writing before I found my ‘voice’ (again supported by Simon).

I am so glad I heard about him. The ‘fit’ has been perfect. I’ve found him to be reliable, competent, efficient and honest. He has a good knowledge of the English language – expression, vocabulary, grammar and syntax – as well as high computer literacy – always able to access stored information promptly.

He also possesses the added bonus of being empathetic with a sense of humour (and justice!).

I’ve been grateful for his many suggestions which have improved the overall writing standard. The project we originally thought would take about a year has blossomed into five, being completed in 2022.

Thank you Simon.
